A culture’s architectural quality is not measured by the occasional iconic building but by the quality of ordinary architectural production.
But how can one escape the uncomplimentary connotations of banal?
The challenge is to find contemporary interpretations of forms that already exist. Transforming familiar images in a way that refers to the experiences of people based on the associations they evoke.
The result appears as if camouflaged amongst its neighbours and yet its presence changes the way the place is perceived.
This body of work not only challenges the idea that ‘ordinary’ buildings are not interesting. But also emphasizes the social relevance and physical meaning of this backdrop-architecture.
